Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Liberty Barndos & Custom Homes?

Liberty Barndos & Custom Homes is a veteran owned and operated builder serving Oklahoma City and surrounding areas, specializing in custom homes, custom built barndominiums, pole barns/post frame buildings, and design/build services. The company is led by co-owners Nick Gather and John Stroud, and we stay hands-on from planning through completion.

We serve Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Moore, Yukon, Mustang, Midwest City, Texoma, and Eufaula. If you’re just outside those areas, reach out, projects on acreage or near lakes often still fit our service footprint.

Yes. We build traditional custom homes and custom barndominiums (barndos). Some clients know exactly what they want. Others want help choosing the best option based on budget, land, storage needs, and how they plan to live.

A barndominium combines a durable exterior structure with a comfortable, finished interior that lives like a true home. In Oklahoma, barndos are popular because they’re flexible, many owners want open living space plus a shop, oversized garage, RV bay, or equipment storage under the same roof.

Absolutely. The difference is in the structural approach, not the interior quality. Barndominiums can include custom kitchens, upgraded bathrooms, fireplaces, premium flooring, trim work, and layouts that feel no different than a traditional custom home.

Yes. We build pole barns/post frame buildings, including farm buildings, machine storage, hay/feed storage, horse barns, and multi-use structures. We design these around access, ventilation, durability, and how you’ll actually use the space every day.

Many property owners build post frame structures for workshops, hobby shops, RV/boat storage, garages, equipment bays, small business workspaces, and general property storage. The flexibility is a big reason they’re so popular.

Design/build means you work with one coordinated team for both planning and construction. Instead of juggling separate designers and builders, design/build keeps decisions aligned, often reducing miscommunication, delays, and budget surprises.

Local builders are easier to reach, more accountable, and more invested in long-term relationships. Liberty is owner-led, meaning your project isn’t passed around, our leadership stays involved and communication stays direct.

Start with a consultation. We’ll discuss your goals, your land (or potential land), your must-haves, and your budget expectations. From there, we outline a clear path for planning, design, scope, and timeline.

Yes. If you’re considering land, we can discuss practical build considerations like access, grading, drainage, utilities, and layout potential. The goal is to help you avoid costly surprises and choose a site that matches your vision.

Timelines vary by size, complexity, permitting, weather, and selections. Many custom homes fall within a range of several months to over a year from planning to completion. We’ll give you realistic expectations early and keep communication consistent throughout.

Barndominium timelines depend heavily on interior finish level and complexity (shop-heavy vs. luxury interior). Some barndo projects can move faster than traditional builds, but a fully finished barndo can take a similar timeline to a custom home.

Cost depends on square footage, layout complexity, finishes, site conditions, utilities, and the scope of work (including garages/shops/porches). Instead of guessing, Liberty provides clear, itemized estimates so you can see where the budget goes and make informed choices.

Yes. We believe clarity protects the client. Our goal is to define scope thoroughly, explain options, and reduce “surprise costs” by planning carefully upfront.

We help guide the process and coordinate what’s needed to move the project forward. Requirements can vary by municipality and project type, so we keep things organized and communicate what’s needed and when.

Yes. Many of our projects involve acreage builds where access, utilities, and site planning matter. We’ll help think through practical details like driveway approach, building placement, drainage, and how the property will function.

Yes. Lake-area builds often require smarter planning for storage, parking, outdoor living, and long-term durability. Whether it’s a weekend retreat or a full-time home, we design around the way the property will actually be used.

Absolutely. This is one of the biggest reasons clients choose barndominiums and post frame buildings. We plan door sizes, clear heights, layouts, and access paths so the space works for trucks, trailers, RVs, boats, or equipment.

Yes. Horse barns require thoughtful planning, stall layout, ventilation, wash areas, tack rooms, feed storage, and flow that makes daily routines easier. We build equestrian structures designed for real use and long-term durability.

We can discuss options that improve peace of mind, including safe room planning or structural considerations that fit your goals and the project scope. We’ll walk through what’s practical for your build and budget.

Many clients choose upgrades like improved insulation strategies, better window performance, air sealing, efficient HVAC planning, and smart thermostat systems. We’ll help you prioritize upgrades that improve comfort and long-term operating costs.

Construction can continue year-round, but weather may affect scheduling at times. We plan responsibly, communicate timeline impacts, and keep the project moving whenever conditions allow.

Many clients use a construction-to-permanent loan through a bank or credit union. Requirements vary by lender, but we can provide documentation and clarity on scope to support the lender process.
